We are made up of spirit, body, mind and what I like to call heart/habits. So what happens when we accept Jesus :
Spirit = New or renewed , we can then relationship with God. Remember that Jesus is the last sacrifice for our sins and sin is what separates us from God.
Body = Generally, no change, your body will degenerate, it is merely an earthly vessel. God is however more than capable of healing you if you are in Him and he is in you.
Mind = I have heard of people accepting Jesus and instantly being able to recite scripture without ever having read the bible. For most of us I would say we need to read our bible daily. A saying I like is ‘ We don’t change God’s message, it changes us ‘I think its in Deuteronomy where it says you are ‘transformed by the renewing of your mind’..
Heart / Habbits = When you accept Jesus you are not instantly a new person. If you stole and swore and smoked yesterday and you accept Jesus today, those things probably won’t change (although again, for some it does) For most of us, we have to do what it says in 2 Peter 1:3–9…..
3We have everything we need to live a life that pleases God. It was all given to us by God’s own power, when we learned that he had invited us to share in his wonderful goodness. 4God made great and marvelous promises, so that his nature would become part of us. Then we could escape our evil desires and the corrupt influences of this world.
5Do your best to improve your faith. You can do this by adding goodness, understanding, 6self-control, patience, devotion to God, 7concern for others, and love. 8If you keep growing in this way, it will show that what you know about our Lord Jesus Christ has made your lives useful and meaningful. 9But if you don’t grow, you are like someone who is nearsighted or blind, and you have forgotten that your past sins are forgiven.
Accepting Jesus and becoming a ‘true’ Christian is not magic. It is a lifestyle and it requires that we want to change and do change (with God’s help and Grace).
God Bless You
