2 Timothy 3:1-5
1You can be certain in the last days there will be very hard times. 2People will love only themselves and money. They will be proud, stuck-up, rude, and disobedient to their parents. They will also be ungrateful, godless, 3heartless, and hateful. Their words will be cruel and they will have no self control or pity. These people will hate everything that is good. 4They will be sneaky, reckless and puffed up with pride. Instead of loving God, they will love pleasure. 5Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won’t be real. Don’t have anything to do with such people.
When I read this verse and look around I think ‘Yeah, sounds like the day and age I am living in’ People loving only themselves and money, being proud, rude and stuck-up, cruel, no self control…..sounds like a summary of the people I see on the news and around me.
But then I get to the key in this verse:
5Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won’t be real.
And then I wonder, are those people in my church too? AM I ONE OF THEM? Oh Lord forgive me if I have lost sight of YOU. If I am going through this life thinking I know you, love you and serve you when in actual fact YOU DON’T KNOW ME!
When I look at the way I treat people and I think of how much I seek my own profit and my own good I am ashamed
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
